Ask A Question from Bankruptcy Trustee for Alberta Alberta Legislative image

Do you contact my employer?

Posted on Tuesday, March 20, 2007

I was looking at an application form I received from a trustee and noticed it requests the name and address of my current employer. Will they be contacted if I file for bankruptcy?

The only time that an employer will be garnisheed is if you are currently subject to a garnishee. Then the trustee will be required to contact your employer to inform them of the Stay of Proceedings and ensure the garnishee is removed. Otherwise there is typically no need to contact CRA.
