How about my husband

if I file for bankruptcy what happes tomy husband. Right now we have a joing account, the mortgage is only in his name, but is the secondary borrower on 2 of my credit cards. Will this affect my husband? Can I simply pay these off before I file for bankruptcy?

  1. Barton Goth, GCO, Bankruptcy Trustees says:

As secondary borrower on the two credit cards, if you file for bankruptcy he will still be responsible for the shortfall on the two accounts he is listed on.

As well I would suggest that if you owe money to the institution you currently have the joint account at you would be best served to open a new account wiht an institution you do not owe money to.
